The government has taken a step ahead in helping improve the working condition and occupational safety and health of workers in the film industry and those involved in audio-visual production.

In a Joint Memorandum Circular with the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the Department of Labor and Employment has set the guidelines governing the promotion of the welfare of audio-visual production workers.

Isa sa mga in-announce niya ay ang joint memorandum circular ng Department of Labor and Employment at FDCP, na kung saan nagkaroon na ng guidelines na susundin ng mga producer para sa proteksyon ng mga audio-visual workers.

Though this was inspired by the COVID-19 crisis, we want to learn from this and make sure that the agency is better prepared in handling such cases in the future. As a permanent program of the FDCP, this disaster fund will be activated every time there is an emergency and the State of Calamity declared by the President,” FDCP Chairperson and CEO Mary Liza B. Dino, said in a statement on Monday.

At the Laging Handa briefing, FDCP Chairperson Liza Diño said that the current cash aid extended to freelancers in the film and audiovisual industry was not enough.

“Talagang medyo blindspot dahil yung mga government programs natin ay nasa formal sector, masasabi mong mga employees, at yung mga nasa vulnerable sector natin para sa DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development). Pero kasi, in between ang ating mga cultural workers, film workers, audio-visual workers,” Diño said during the Laging Handa briefing.
